About IBCB

The Institute of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (IBCB) is a research organization established in Visakhapatnam, India. It is a community of scholars devoted to the understanding of mysteries that remain in the catalogue of human genes through intellectual inquiry. The Institute encourages and supports curiosity-driven research in the fields of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. The institute nurtures speculative thinking that produces advances in knowledge that change the way we understand the world. It provides for the mentoring of scholars, and ensures the freedom to undertake research that will make significant contributions in any of the broad range of fields in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology.

Bioinformatics is “research, development, or application of computational tools and approaches for expanding the use of biological, medical, behavioural or health data, including those to acquire, store, organize, archive, analyze, or visualize such data” ( http://www.bisti.nih.gov/).

Computational biology is “the development and application of data-analytical and theoretical methods, mathematical modelling and computational simulation techniques to the study of biological, behavioural, and social systems” ( http:// www.bisti.nih.gov/). Bioinformatics and Computational Biology are closely tied, with their missions deeply rooted in a better understanding of the problems commonly studied in life sciences, information sciences, computational technologies, statistics, genetics, medicine, physiology, cell biology, and epidemiology.

Our future plans are
Organizing workshops/conferences in the area of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology
Applying for grant in aid for the project proposals
Encouraging the women scientists in Research & Development
